| We LIVE UNITED:
The Youngstown Connection Way! |
The Youngstown Connection is a select singing and performing group of students representing the Youngstown City School District's high schools.
The group recently participated in a "Community Service Symposium" in which they visited local non-profit organizations including Goodwill Industries, Second Harvest Food Bank, and our United Way. They served meals at St. John's Cafe and the Rescue Mission. The Symposium began on February 12 and ended on February 15 with a performance at Beeghly Oaks Nursing Home.
In the 22 year history of the Youngstown Connection, which is led by Dr. Carol Baird, the group has a 100% high school graduation rate and a 97% college graduation rate. That's how they LIVE UNITED.

The Youngstown Connection also participates in the annual United Way Youth Day of Caring which is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2010. High school students spend the morning volunteering at local non-profit organizations. They meet for a kick-off breakfast at 8 a.m. at the downtown YMCA and return for lunch to conclude the day.
If you are interested in participating in this event, which is sponsored by Farmers National Bank, please complete a registration form or call Tara Mady at 330.746.8494.

| United Way Bass Classic |
The 11th annual United Way Bass Classic will be held on Saturday, June 5th at Evans and Pine Lakes.
This fundraising pro-am tournament hosted by Aqua Ohio, was developed to provide awareness and raise money for the valuable programs supported by the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley as well as provide a meaningful outing for anglers.
The first ten tournaments have raised over $115,000 for the United Way. Our goal this year is to raise $25,000.
During the event, pros compete for prize money and amateurs compete for prizes donated by local businesses. All participants receive an event t-shirt and goodie bag. We hope to have 25 teams on each lake for a total of 100 participants.
On the day of the tournament, we will be hosting a Kids' Fish & Fun Event at Evans Lake where we will have various children's activities. The day will conclude with our professional style weigh-in.

The Lena Mason Christian Spaghetti Dinner was held on Saturday, February 6. Despite the 18" of snow, 110 dinners were served. Thanks to advance ticket sales and the generosity of people who could not attend, over $5,300 was raised. The leftover food was taken to the Dorothy Day Hospitality House on the north side of Youngstown. Everyone in attendance did a great job and kept everyones' spirits high throughout the day. Special thanks to everyone who supported this 4th annual event.

| FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount Cards |
|
For individuals or families who do not have health insurance, or need medications not covered by their insurance plan, the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley is continuing its distribution of the FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards.
Since October 2007, when the United Way first offered this card, over $530,000 has been saved in Mahoning County including $37,000 in savings last month alone. On average, the cards lower the cost of medication by 30% or more. United Way is providing these cards free-of-charge to the community. There are no age restrictions, income restrictions, or limit on how many times the card can be used.
To obtain your FamilyWize card, download a card here, or call 330.746.8494. Local pharmacies including Giant Eagle, Target, and CVS will also have cards available for customers and the public at all of their locations.
